Emergency Test Signal

Week from Monday 24th April 2023 - Weekends these days are very much for WATCHING THE DETECTIVES. I save up an entire weeksworth of whodunnits and binge watch them throughout the course of Saturday and Sunday (Not much time for music or soshul meejah for me then!). That includes five or six episodes of "NCIS: NEW ORLEANS", the excellent "ASTRID: MURDER IN PARIS" and, on the lighter side, I've been playing catch-up with the first season of "SHAKESPEARE & HATHAWAY". The latest series of the scandi-noir "DEN SØM DRÆBER" has been slightly disappointing, but I'm determined to stick it out to see what happens. Saturday teatimes are generally spent watching re-re-re-runs of "MIDSOMER MURDERS" (comfort telly!). After a huge, panic-inducing media build-up, the Gubnint's "EMERGENCY TEST SIGNAL" initiative turned out to be the proverbial damp squib, as with any sort of INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY they try to involve themselv...

Timeline Sh**fest

Week from Monday 17th April 2023 - Let's see what Uncle Elron has been up to, shall we kids? As usual, a lot of the 'content' that folks are complaining about on Twitter has not yet impacted my own experience in the slightest. And again, I find myself pondering whether it's something that I'm doing right, or something that EVERYONE ELSE is doing wrong. Believe me, I'd be the first to complain if my timeline was suddenly full of Nazis, but it hasn't happened. But as someone pointed out, "Twitter often seems to forget that it's a global platform and not just an American one..." . My own problems are mainly with how Twitter 'performs mechanically'. I barely touch the desktop version now, except to upload pictures, because it's got so laggy on Firefox, and involves so much faffing around with LOGGING IN, it borders on the unusable. So my findings are based entirely on the Android app, which is 'always there' for me... PP - L...

The Rinse Cycle

Wednesday 12th April - There's STORMS a-brewin'... but, after an audibly blustery night, things had cleared up enough on Wednesday morning for me to travel. No reported 'LINES BLOCKED BY DOWNED TREES' or the 'WRONG KIND OF WIND' or anything, at least not in this neck of the woods. The precipitation has eased, but it's still a bit BLOWY, so the walk to the station needs to be cautious... I spotted not just one but TWO FOXES at the railway yard. The resident male "JUNIOR" was pottering around as usual, ducking in and out of the holes in the fence and watching the world go by. But there was also a female, snoozing behind one of the portacabins. Not that they seemed to be having anything to do with each other! A few weeks ago, while 'GIVING A SHIFT', I noticed a (still sealed) DVD box-set of Wagner's complete "RING CYCLE" (the televised version by the New York Met), waiting for valuation. A quick scan through the internets reve...

Some Links

The 'old' BloggyDiaryWotsit is still there, hosted by the CoffeeCup concern, but I can't say for how long with any certainty! You can access directly all the previous postings via this "Sitemap" table . I do have 'previous form' on this here Blogger. I also have a site called Minty's Mews , but that one has been 'mothballed' and begging for new content since 2015! There's a lot of opinion about musical topics contained therein, some which I may no longer hold. There is also a collaborative page, full of strange freeform gibberish poetry and prose, called Anarchaeology (a bit 'niche' and not for the fainthearted!). Both of those Blogspots predate the wonderful world of 'responsive' web design by several years, so I make no guarantee that they will look any good on those phones and tablets of yours! Elsewhere, I have musical content posted on Soundcloud , but I must admit that too has fallen into disuse of late. When t...

Playlist (April 2023)

What's on the Jukebox? - A playlist of top stuff that's currently setting the toes a-tappin', the fingers a-snappin' and the ears a-wormin' and generally shakin' my grooved thang to thrillin' effect. (Click on the wee lozenges to link to related YouTube clips, if you're curious.) Soft Heap "Soft Heap" (a.o) ◊ Anchor and Burden "Kosmonautik Pilgrimage" ◊ Miles Davis "The Bootleg Series Vol.7 (1982-1985)" ◊ Frank Zappa "Zappa'80: Mudd Club/Munich" ◊ Sir Adrian Boult "Vaughan Williams: The Complete Recordings" ◊

Oh Canada!

Week from Monday 3rd April 2023 - Well! it's only taken about twenty-five years, but at last somebody is taking notice of my YouTube videos! My Canadian twitterchum wants to use some of my funny little abstract fillums to accompany his own music, so I've spent this morning gathering together a few clips, so that I can send them to him via the G***leDrive I still share with Tim The Bass. I look forward to seeing his 'collage'...

Why?

I suddenly found that I was unable to upload posts to the "BloggyDiaryWotsit" that had been hosted by Coffeecup.com for the last few years. It was only a matter of time. Their software all works on M****soft Windoze and I don't anymore. I may also be a victim of Firefox's increasingly strict policy about using "http" addresses rather than the more secure and now widely accepted "https"... Week from Monday 10th April 2023 - I'm not quite sure when I'll be able to make these latest DIARYWOTSIT updates 'LIVE', as the CoffeeCup homepage is currently showing me 'suggestions' for their readymade templates and Windoze apps instead of letting me upload my own files. But "IF YOU CAN SEE THIS..." etc. etc. etc. Of course, I realised that the time might come when I'd struggle using CoffeeCup's Windoze-only stuff on my LINUX set-up, and that FIREFOX's increasingly strict policy for not letting 'unsecure'...
