Timeline Sh**fest
Week from Monday 17th April 2023 - Let's see what Uncle Elron has been up to, shall we kids? As usual, a lot of the 'content' that folks are complaining about on Twitter has not yet impacted my own experience in the slightest. And again, I find myself pondering whether it's something that I'm doing right, or something that EVERYONE ELSE is doing wrong. Believe me, I'd be the first to complain if my timeline was suddenly full of Nazis, but it hasn't happened. But as someone pointed out, "Twitter often seems to forget that it's a global platform and not just an American one...". My own problems are mainly with how Twitter 'performs mechanically'. I barely touch the desktop version now, except to upload pictures, because it's got so laggy on Firefox, and involves so much faffing around with LOGGING IN, it borders on the unusable. So my findings are based entirely on the Android app, which is 'always there' for me...
I'm REALLY REALLY enjoying that DVD box-set of "DER RING DES NIBELUNGEN", but I've been watching it in three-hour chunks (i.e. one disc at a time) to allow it all to sink in (I couldn't possibly fill up all at once!). I watched "DAS RHEINGOLD" towards the end of last week and then, on Sunday evening, I immersed myself in the first two Acts of "DIE VALKURE". (I'm reminded that, when it was shown on the telly in the early eighties, I was torn between watching "Der Ring" or the Eurovision Song Contest on 'the other side'! Thus I had to make the choice between Wotan or Wogan!)
I took a DAZE OUT on my b'day (well, a couple of hours, anyway...) to go wandering around Southampton. I was rather disappointed to find that there were no CHARITY SHOPS in the Bev(o)is Valley area, only an excessive amount of motorcycle dealerships and more Turkish or Asian BARBER SHOPS than are strictly necessary, not to mention all those suspicious-looking shops selling unmarked phones and vape supplies. I had a vague recollection that there were a couple of chazzas right near The Onslow. But that's not there anymore either... so onwards to the city centre.
I'm not really one for coming home with 'PILES' these days. I can browse for hours in an Oxfam, without any actual urge to OWN anything I see. My avowed policy of not buying any (rock'n'pop) music without hearing it first, has gradually spread to include my cheap-shop activities. It has to be something HIGHLY sought-after for me to part with my one-ninety-nines these days. I suppose I've become more selective (and blasé) about chazza browsing, after several years of working in one! That and the realisation that one can needlessly accumulate TOO MUCH music, when there are fewer hours available in the day for listening to it.
But I did pick up a rather nice solo piano album by McCOY TYNER (wot's not t'like?) and a live set of Hungarian gypsy toons by TCHA LIMBERGER and his crew. I'd seen them supporting FANFARE CIOCARLIA at a show in Brighton a few years back...
PP - Let's get this straight. Folks are still complaining about the "For You" timeline? Mine is, generally speaking, populated by people I follow and are interested in reading. The "Following" timeline, however, is full of people I've never heard of, plus random adverts.
CBQ - I never go into "For You" but just did so. Disappointingly, I found a lot from people I follow which seems never to have appeared in my "Following" timeline? That, plus, it's not in chronological order. It's a veritable "shitfest" to use a technical term...
PP - Both timelines are "shitfests", but I believe it to be the least shitty of the fests now, at least on the Android app. My only complaint is with its "loopy" nature. I find myself seeing posts repeated that I already saw in previous hours.
CBQ - A quick scan through "For You" seems to suggest it's all from people I follow - so, you know, what's the point? These are surely now the two timelines you used to have to click the button at the top of the page to choose between in the old days. Elon Musk is an absolute dick...
PP - Exactly. Whereas "Following" contains almost none of them! I think someone swapped their tags 'round!
