Compromise

Week from Monday 4th May 2026 - I had my COVID JABBING over the weekend, which naturally led to a couple of daze ZONKED OUT with the "Spikevax Fever" - including all the fun stuff like nauseous retching, reduced appetite and crashing headaches, as well as spending most of the ensuing day-and-a-bit in fevered semi-consciousness. It's a CATCH-22 sitch... I get FREE priority vaccinations because I'm "IMMUNO-COMPROMISED", but that is also the probable reason for my reacting so badly to the drug itself! Meanwhile, I have a chat with the HAEMO-ONCOs on Tuesday, so I made sure to get my relevant BLOOD TESTS in earlier, before all that was in my system!

TUESDAY PHONECHAT... Indications are that certain critical blood 'NUMBERS' are creeping upwards again ('Free Light Chains', 'Serum Free Lambda' and all that sort of hoohah). But they are nowhere near the 'UP IN THE THOUSANDS' count that they were when I was first diagnosed with MYELOMA, so there's no immediate panic. Obviously, further cancer treatments WILL happen at some time in the future, but not just yet...

Today (Wednesday) I'm popping down to the printshop in Gozzy, to run off the CD covers for some more recent BANDCAMP acquisitions (ANGINE DE POITRINE, MARKUS REUTER's new TRUCE live release and some PAT MASTELOTTO projeKCts among them). I also DESPERATELY need to stock up on HAY FEVER supplies while I'm down there!

Thursday is LOCAL ELECTIONS day. It's 'only' an election of COUNCILLORS for the Borough and County bodies, but these things are often seen as an indication of which way the wind is blowing for the NATIONAL government, a VOTE OF CONFIDENCE. I don't expect my (GREEN) vote to actually count for anything though, as it never has hereabouts, not since I was first qualified to put pencil to paper all those decades ago.

The electoral turnout in this (Rotten) Borough has historically always been VERY LOW. "Tactical" voting has NEVER been a workable option, although I have previously been known to put my cross to the 'second best' option, the Lib-Dems, in the hope that it might be.

The TORIES always win in every category of election, because nobody ever bothers to turn up to vote AGAINST them! The only folks who seem to make the effort are the kind who automatically vote Tory out of HABIT:- the landed gentry and the well-to-do people on The Avenue, a considerable number of ex-Navy types who still think that the sun shone out of Thatcher's arse, plus a few 'white van' small-business owners looking after their own (tax) interests. In short, the types who will vote EVERY TIME for ANYTHING you can pin a BLUE ROSETTE on.

We do also have our fair share of FLAGS-ON-LAMPPOSTS bods these days, but I'd be surprised if those people vote at all! The main difference now is that "our" incumbent MP, Madame CRUELLA has ditched the Tories and crossed over to the Nazi Reform Party, so I fear that she will take many with her... Nothing's ever going to change in this town (or indeed country), because of the people who live here, being manipulated by the people who don't.

I find myself enjoying a 'free' weekend. I don't have to go anywhere! So I take this opportunity to upcatch with all that TELLY that I've accumulated... Hours and hours of (mostly) WHODUNNITS that I hadn't got around to yet! This carries over into Monday, when I'm doing "MONDAY STUFF":- 'talk' radio and podcasts an'ting. Factor in the time spent catching up with the highlights from the GIRO D'ITALIA, it is safe to say that, these days, I rarely listen to any MUSIC at all at weekends, which is probably an inconceivable situation for many that I 'know'.
