Upgrades
Week from Monday 23rd February 2026 - I'm putting the finishing touches to another "HOT TICKLES" sampler. These are compilation discs of whatever 'proggy-but-mostly-King-Crimson-related' odds and sods I might have sitting around on the hard-drives. They don't come quite as frequently as they once did, but I've now reached VOLUME 169! It includes the last three or four "STORMY'S MONDAY SELECTIONS", some leftover 21st CENTURY SCHIZOID live tracks, the Bandcamp-only bonus tracks from the last SOFT MACHINE album, a couple of ambient soundscapey things and a PETER GABRIEL live track from WOMAD 1982, concatenated in a tastefully flowing manner...
T-SHIRT WEATHER IN FEBRUARY...? brr! wot a scorcher! I ventured out on Wednesday, orf up the horsepickle to get yet another BLOOD TEST. There was a lot of folks in the 'queue' ahead of me, and they eventually split us up and dragged some of us upstairs for a leeching on LEVEL C... By the time I emerged outside, the sun was beating down! I stuffed my heavy coat into my bulging rucksack and spent the rest of the day in shirtsleeves! (Of course, the next day it was back to dreary, wet and windy again!)
I hopped on a bus down to the city centre for a bit of a WALKABOUT.
In one of the CHARITY SHOPS, I picked up a copy of "Terra" by the fado star MARIZA. It's not exactly new (2008) but it's one that I hadn't come across before. Now it has to be said, her particular brand of 'Mid-Atlantic Miseryguts Music' (and fado in general) can get a bit samey at times, so you normally know exactly what you're getting. (In that case, why have you bought so many of her albums?... Ed.) But this one does mix it up a bit, with a little Buena-Vista-style jazzy piano, some rather nice trumpet interjections and even a smidgeon of flamenco! Delightful stuff!
While I'm in town, I take the opportunity to buy "THE OVERVIEW" by The Artist Apparently Known As
S T 5 V 5 N W 9 LS 15 N . It's only taken me nearly a year, but having lived with the LIVE recording(s) for a while, I think I'm just about ready to give it another go! It doesn't hurt that you can get it in HMV for under a tenner now (Told you so!). This second time around, I'm warming to it considerably and I'm getting used to the fact that the two 'sides' are programmed continuously on the CD, instead of being indexed as separate titles. I stand by my earlier verdict that 'side one' ("OBJECTS OUTLIVE US") is by far the strongest of the two and works as a total piece, 'side two' ("THE OVERVIEW" itself) not so much... I've also come to the conclusion that I prefer the live versions, as played by the working band. And I still don't care what any of it is "about".
I also treated myself to a CD upgrade for "Relics", the ONLY absolutely essential PINK FLOYD album...
The much anticipated version 148 of FIREFOX has arrived! Needless to say, its most welcome new feature* is the ability (via the 'SETTINGS' page) to COMPLETELY SWITCH OFF all of the built-in A.I. features that are liable to appear on y'browser between now and doomsday... Thanks a million MOZILLA PEOPLE, for giving us the choice!
(*Only on the desktop version - not yet on the mobile, it would seem...)
Oops! when I upgraded my FIREFOX(es), I cleared out my browser history. I then discovered that I'd accidentally lost my fifty-plus days' WINNING STREAK on my daily geography quiz #Worldle. So I'm having to start from zero again...
