Signals
Week from Monday 28th July 2025 - I took a trip up that horsepickle for a comprehensive selection of BLOOD TESTS, ahead of this week's telephone chat with the Daktari (strikes permitting!). There was quite a lot of 'PATIENT WAITING' involved, as there were about a dozen folks ahead of me in the 'queue' this morning. But with that out of the way, I went down into Pompey to poke about in one or two CHAZZAS. I found poundsworth seedycopies of SANDY DENNY's "The Best Of The BBC Recordings", JOHN SCOFIELD's "A Go Go" and the "Great Composers" volume of BACH's organ works. The latter two items are 'upgrades' for ones that I already have on cassette.
The TOUR DE FRANCE is done and dusted. It's been a long (and mostly gripping) month, but I'm kind of glad it's over, so that I can now concentrate on OTHER things! It's a LOVE/HATE thang. As I mentioned before, close attention to a sport can occupy far TOO MANY hours of the day, so it's a good job I'm not interested in anything ball-related!
Needless to say, 'POGI' won it again. In fact, the top three podium was EXACTLY the same as the Dauphiné. Once again, LiDL-TREK have proved that they can't pick a team to compete for the OVERALL rankings in a Grand Tour, but they can be very good at winning POINTS competitions. JONATHAN MILAN finished in green by a wide margin which, following MADS PEDERSEN's Italian purpling, makes it two-for-two in the Big Three Tours this year. QUINN SIMMONS probably should have been a dead cert for the 'COMBATATIVE' award, but I suspect the vote was swayed politically by his 'CAPTAIN AMERICA' outfit. (The team wore "JOURNÉE VERTE" t-shirts for their post-race photos, which maybe isn't as clever as "PURPLE REIGN" but still...)
I deliberately didn't switch on any of my devices on Sunday, so that I could CATCH UP with a few things without being disturbed. Now, it's back to "MONDAY DOING MONDAY STUFF" and all the rest...
I had my telephone chat with one of the HAEMO-ONCO people. Everything is ticking along 'as well as can be expected', with nothing new to report. It's exactly ONE YEAR AGO this week that I completed the last of my six cycles of "DVTD" chemo. Thankfully, I'm still ALL-CLEAR. I'd fully expected that I'd have to stay in for half the day waiting for the call, but the consultation was refreshingly EARLY. So I was able to fit in some shopping afterwards.
I had a bit of a panic when I woke up on Thursday. I thought my TV had stopped working properly. I had perfectly good sound but no picture. But a bit of early-morning troubleshooting revealed that it was the AERIAL SIGNAL BOOSTER widget that had died and not the telly itself. Luckily, I had another one in my extensive collection of spare parts. It works, but it's not QUITE as good a signal as the one I had been using (f'rinstance the picture quality on the DVR has gone a bit PINK). There may need to be some further replacement of cables...
The telly HAS stopped working properly now! Again, no picture, just sound. Luckily, I've been able to borrow an older (ie pre-HD) tellybox as a temporary replacement. It's a markedly worse picture quality, but it WORKS and it'll have to do for a couple of days...
I've come to the end of my own REAL WORLD RECORDS 'thon over on the Blue Place, but there are still vast swathes of their catalogue that I either haven't got or probably wouldn't like anyway. Instead of just listening to the "ONE WORLD ONE VOICE" album (not strictly a RW release, I know!), I watched the whole of the original documentary on That YouTube They Have Now. There are quite a few 'LUMPS TO THE THROAT' moments along the way, I don't mind telling you!
