Cheep
Week from Monday 23rd June 2025 - No 'OFFICIAL BUSINESS' on the cards this week, so I can tackle a handful of 'MUSIC PROJECTS'. DGMLIVE.com have now released all of the shows from the KING CRIMSON 2015 tour as downloads, so I have availed myself of the BRIGHTON DOME concert that we attended (almost TEN years ago!?). But rather than do a 'double CD set' of the whole thing, I'm assembling one of my famous 'SINGLE DISC HIGHLIGHTS' 'listening' seedies, while also archiving the unedited show in its entirety as an MP3 disc.
I'm also getting around to giving some MILES DAVIS live recordings the attention they deserve. They'd been sitting on the harddrive for who-knows-how-long? Audio quality is not of the essence, so I'll probably assemble those onto a MP3 disc.
Then I have a good quality 'naughty' recording from the time when JOHN McLAUGHLIN and his 4th Dimension Band toured the Americas with JIMMY HERRING's Invisible Whip and they did a nightly collaborative set of MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA numbers. By whittling out the drum solos, the between-song patter and any dead air (as yer do!), it makes for a jolly listenable single CD.
This Friday sees the official release date for FRANK ZAPPA's "Cheaper Than Cheep" blu-ray/CD set. In 1974 he video recorded a complete concert set, intending it to be a 'TV SPECIAL', but it's never seen the light of day until now. But thanks to the good folk at the BURNING SHED concern, it's arrived on my doormat a day early! 'SOMETHING FOR THE WEEKEND, SIR?'
On Saturday, I thought I'd give the RECORD FAIR in Southampton another shot, but it was an even bigger disappointment than last time. The sign outside said "RECORD & CD FAIR", but nobody was selling any compact discs at all this time, only the big black plastic fashionable ones. I don't think I'll bother again!
Week from Monday 30th June 2025 - Not too much to worry about this week... It is hot and sticky, but I took a trip down to the PRINT SHOP in Gozzy to run off the covers for my latest "MUSIC PROJECTS", availed myself of a ream of office paper and did a little bit of POUNDLANDing.
But this weekend sees the start of the TOUR DE FRANCE, so all eyes are on that! All indications are that this race will continue EXACTLY where the DAUPHINÉ left off, with the same 'big three' rivals, TADEJ POGAČAR, JONAS VINGEGAARD and REMCO EVENEPOUL, battling it out once again for dominance in the media, if not the race itself. PRIMOŽ ROGLIČ is also in the mix this time. Even the names in the 'BUNCH SPRINTS' will be familiar, with LiDL-TREK's JONNY MILAN being the one I'll be cheering for.
