Daze

Week from Monday 26th May 2025 - Going into the third week of the GIRO D'ITALIA, it's still pretty unpredictable (GOOD!). The GC has been changing on a daily basis. PRIMOŽ ROGLIČ has lost far too much time to be a contender now (STOP PRESS: He's abandoned!). Our own GIULIO CICCONE was involved in a bigly crash over the weekend, so sadly he had to retire. With over a hundred points lead over his nearest rival, MADS PEDERSEN already has the CICLOMINA JERSEY competition pretty much sewn up anyway (hasn't he?). But with little else to ride for, the LiDL-TREK lads are free to just aim for individual STAGES. CARLOS VERONA went successfully 'solo' on Sunday. With SIX stage wins in total (so far), the squad must surely qualify for some sort of BEST TEAM EFFORT award if there is one...? Generally though, by the final (anticlimactic) week of ANY Grand Tour, I've stopped caring about who's winning it and I just enjoy the spectacle. (In this case, I'm doubly enjoying it without any commentary!)

The new "TRUCE <3" album by MARKUS REUTER, FABIO TRENTINI and ASAF SIRKIS is an absolute stonker and no mistake! I have humbly suggested that it is the best of their three outings so far, and several blooskychums seem to agree. It's a little more structured and less obviously "T.M.I.U.A.T.G.A." than the previous outings. It is pleasing that Fabio sticks with his melodious WAL FRETLESS BASS this time around and tends to carry the 'tunes' throughout, suggesting obvious comparisons with PERCY JONES' work with BRAND X and PAKT. It's probably too early to state that it's going to be my 'ALBUM OF THE YEAR', but it'll certainly be right up there! (along with yet another of Markus's trios TONNEN VON HALL, who are also three-quarters of ANCHOR AND BURDEN...)

Well, it's Thursday, the weather's not bad, I can't sit in all day... Time for "DAZE OUT"! I hopped on a train to Basingstoke for a waddle-about the shops. This is my first time on the railway since I was forced to quit my weekly 'commute' to Winchester.

My disappointment with the HMV concern continues to grow. Their store in B'Stoke is barely a RECORD SHOP at all now. It's mainly a TOY SHOP, with a couple of shelves of actual (very select) MUSIC tucked away at the back. Not a sausage to be had, unless you're after manga t-shirts, games or teddy bears.

I had more fun poking around the various CHARITY SHOPS. The BHF shop in particular is a good'n. I found some 'upgrades' for TRICKY's "Maxinquaye" and RICHARD & LINDA THOMPSON's "Hokey Pokey" and I struck up a conversation about RICHARD THOMPSON's recent gig at The Anvil.

I sat and enjoyed a Poundland 'LUNCH DEAL' in the station square, after an extended footslog around the shops. I find that I'm no longer getting as tired and BREATHLESS as I once did during the 'condition', but my FEET do tend to get rather hurty from the pounding, and that's when they're not otherwise being completely numb. But that's probably got just as much to do with OLD AGE, as it is related to having that cancer...
