Week from Monday 5th August 2024 - The telly coverage of the cycling WOMEN'S ROAD RACE at the Olympics was not treated with any respect. Not only with the Beeb's habit of cutting away midflow to show the 'more important' gymnastics or golf instead, but with the directors' tendency to show nice scenic views of Paris and its environs, or arty slow-motion shots of the crowds, rather than close-ups of any actual racing that might be going on. There had been a few notable incidents early in the course, but I only knew about them because I was following the live updates on Twitter - they weren't on the telly! It was only in the final circuits on the Parisian streets that we actually got to SEE some action (and there was, admittedly, plenty of that!)

AN ONGOING PROJECT... Some time ago I'd set up a WINDOWS (7) partition on m'laptop so that I could sort of recreate a twenty-year old 'GRAPHICS WORKSTATION' and still run my ancient version of CORELDRAW... but it remained UNFINISHED. I hit a few problems at the time and I'd never got any further with it, until now. At this stage though, IT'S JUST A BIT OF FUN! I no longer have any 'serious' use for it. Of course, this being M****SOFT, I keep getting nagged that my WINDOWS is not "GENUINE" or not "ACTIVATED", but as it never has to connect to the internet, or do ANYTHING other than be a blank operating platform for CORELDRAW, I'm not that bothered, sod'em! I have currently hit a few (more) SNAGS which will need me to ponder, or at least find 'workarounds' for. Windoze can't detect all of the USB connections on the lappy, only the one on the right, so I can't use a mouse AND plug in my portable hard-drive at the same time. It also can't find the lappy's own touchpad controls. Any 'jobs' that I create with COREL will have to be saved as PDFs in a location that will allow me to open them via LINUX. But as I say, IT'S JUST A BIT OF FUN, which I'll come back to later...

Week from Monday 12th August 2024 - The INTERIM PERIOD between my Myeloma treatments continues... As had been suggested, a number of the symptoms have returned now that I'm not being routinely tabbed'n'jabbed. In particular, my BLOOD PRESSURE has now hit the OTHER extreme - it's now too LOW! - so any bad circulation in my hands and feet can get quite painful. I'm also finding that I'm getting BREATHLESS again, even when going from one room to another, let alone any actual "WALKIES". A face-to-face meeting with THE BOSSES has been arranged, but I also need to go through the kerfuffle of trying to get a GP appointment as well (telephone only, of course).

Now you know me, I LIKE 'weird' music. I delight in all manifestation of the avant-garde. If "They're Making It Up As They Go Along", all the better! But I thought that the ANTHONY BRAXTON 'tribute' at last night's PROMS was a load of old TOSS. It might have been a case of 'JUST ME THEN?' and I personally wasn't in the right mood for it at that time of night, but I feel that I have to point out ("Emperor's New Clothes" and all that!) that it didn't sound very musical at all. Just for the record, I have heard other Braxton pieces in the past and quite enjoyed the experience, so I can only conclude that this specifically wasn't a very good performance.
