Schedules
Week from Monday 1st April 2024 - I'm generally a bit SORE first thing in the morning, but it soon passes once I'm UP AND RUNNING (probably the wrong choice of phrase, 'cos I ain't 'running' anywhere at the moment!)... Another kerfuffle on Wednesday for my regular 'chemo' visit. The provided transport arrived this time, so I got there in plenty of time for my three o'clock appointment. But then I had to have a BLOOD TEST and that required that I wait an EXTRA ninety minutes for the results (in a fairly cold reception area). Once I had been seated (some time after five o'clock) the nurse dropped a bottle of medicine and I had to wait some more for a clean-up crew to do their job, before I could finally get my tabs'n'jabs. They don't call us 'PATIENT(s)' for nothing! Luckily, the transport home had been re-arranged. Now I have lots of 'HOMEWORK' to do in the morning, sorting and documenting all the meds for my third 'CYCLE'...
Week from Monday 8th April 2024 - At this juncture, I don't appear to have any visits to the HORSE-PICKLE scheduled for this week, but we shall see... I will be doing my SELF-ASSESSMENT taxduty at some point (although I've earned practically NOTHING this last twelvemonth)...
I'm still battling with my BLOOD PRESSURE. The ideal target "for someone my age" is 135-over-80, but I have found that if it drops TOO low, then the bad circulation in my legs causes a whole other world of HURT. At the moment, I'm more comfortable keeping the balance somewhere around one-forty. Not ideal, but it works for me. I had a VERY sore run of sleepless nights this week, but touch wood, this evening is a lot more comfy. It obviously depends on the variety of drugs I have to take on different days of the week, especially judicious dosages of the alpha-blocker DOXAZOSIN. (All of these meds have ridiculous names which are impossible for any layperson to remember. That's why 'I MAKE LISTS'! There must be somebody in BIG PHARMA's Names Department whose job is just to pull random letters out of a Scrabble bag.)
I'm almost leaving it up to others to choose my LISTENING HABITS at the moment! Most of the day is usually soundtracked by BBC RADIO THREE (ideal 'Office Ambience' and a good way to discover), but I occasionally dip into the CD collection when someone mentions something on That Twitter or in the Blue Sky. They'll often suggest that an album is a 'CLASSIC' and if I have it, I'll give it a whirl to see what all the fuss is about! Sometimes it hits, sometimes not so much, but it's never less than interesting to revisit stuff that I may have long ago dismissed. The Yes album "TALK" being a good example this week: It's hardly what I would call a 'classic' and it's very much 'OF ITS TIME', but I was surprised to find it NOT TOO SHABBY a listen after all these years! (Whether it merits a four-seedy super-deluxe reissue is open to debate!?!) I also anticipate that I'll be dipping into the MAN, RADIOHEAD and R.E.M. boxes, 'inspired' by what has been discussed online...
Meanwhile, there have been mumblings and rumblings about BBC RADIO THREE's new schedule on That There Soshul Meejer, accusing them of "dumbing down" and "trying to sound like CLASSIC FM". Personally, the "Like-Classic-FM-Only-Without-All-The-Annoying-Adverts" approach suits me just fine first thing in the morning. What doesn't quite work for me is the archive PICK'N'MIX format that the so-called 'CONCERT' programmes have taken on. And the WEEKEND schedule is, I agree, a MESS! I'll particularly miss the Saturday teatime "J-to-Z" programme - Shuffling the 'jazz' off to a late-night slot is always a bad sign... But "Friday Night Is Music Night"?!? Nah! Puh-leeeze! Go back to RADIO TWO where you belong!
#TwentyThreeYearsAgo 'Round 'bout now in 2001, I went to see one of my all-time musical 'heroes' TOM ZÉ in concert OOP DZAT LOONDIN, backed by the chaps from TORTOISE. A fabulous time was had by all. Luckily, I wrote a quirky blogpage about it! ppmews.blogspot.com/2012/01/tom-ze-in-london.html
