Ketchup

Week from Monday 2nd October 2023 - On Thursday, I got 'invited' to the pharmacist to get double-jabbed: one for the FLU in my right arm, plus a dose of what we may technically refer to as the 'PFIZER COMIRNATY ORIGINAL/OMICRON BA.4-5 for SARS-CoV-2' in the other. I decided "WHAT THE HECK!?!" and went for it. The side effects are much less pronounced this time around, but I did SLEEP away most of forty-eight hours...

Week from Monday 9th October 2023 - I'm catching up with most of last week's telly, and several days'worth of Twitter. There's much to amuse, educate and inform as well as, I would admit, much to scroll past entirely... but I see there's a fresh wave of "THAT'S IT, I'VE HAD IT!" postings from people making the decision to jump ship, leaving me to wonder how others find it SO unusable, while I'm still comfy (Probably because I'm diligently self-immunised against Enlo's latest whims?) Of course, my own mind will change if he DOES decide to ask for money, as previously threatened...

I've noticed a little improvement in my health, although there's one or two side-effects lingering since THE JABBING. I can now at least sit at the desk for some 'creativity' from time to time. But any sort of bending and lifting, fetching and carrying, still requires me to GET MY BREATH BACK. I don't think I'll ever be able to return to 'commuting', though an occasional visit to the shop in Gossy might be possible, if the buses are being helpful...

#FortyYearsAgo My housemate dragged me screaming to see DUMPY'S RUSTY NUTS at the Verulam Arms in Watford. A fun night of music, intended merely FOR A LARF, which is just how it was received by me...

#ThirtyYearsAgo 'round 'bout this time, we were looking forward to seeing TRANSGLOBAL UNDERGROUND and LOOP GURU do their "Global Sweatbox" thing at the Wedgewood Rooms in Pompey...

#TwentyYearsAgo Well now, let's see what this ol' diary says, shall we?

Week from Monday 6th October 2003... That'll teach me not to fiddle about! On Friday, I was trying out a demo version of some fax software. When I came in this morning, I found that I had DUMBFOUNDED my modem and had to reinstall everything in order to establish a dialup connection! Ho hum! Still, as you can see, it's working now!
Another weekend, another dose of WOMAD highlights! BBC4 showed the "other" SUPER RAIL BAND set from Sunday afternoon (Radio 3 had previously broadcast the Saturday lunchtime set), while there were three further OUMOU SANGARE tunes that were not broadcast on the radio... which was nice!
Mooching around the MVC emporium, I came across the new ROUGH GUIDE TO THE MUSIC OF CHINA, which I had been awaiting ever since Charlie Gillett played a couple of tracks from it a few weeks back... And just as I was leaving the store, I spotted the RYUKYU UNDERGROUND seedy at a ludicrous £1.99 (Okinawa tunes mixed up with trancey ravey dubby fusion stuff... not ALL of it is great, some of the beats are a bit hackneyed - but at THAT price?!!?)

Yep! still on DIAL-UP in them days! ...When the BBC used to televise WOMAD, it was a mixed blessing. Yes, I was grateful to enjoy again all the highlights on the telly and radio. But at the site in real life, the camera crews and their rather intrusive, stage-hogging 'giraffe-cams', mounted on dolly tracks the size of the Great Western, kinda got in the way of yer average punter's enjoyment. They spoilt the view. Their 'stuff' was everywhere. For a couple of years, it gave the impression that the Beeb thought the Festival was being run solely for THEIR benefit and not the enjoyment of the paying crowd. Enough people complained, and it came to an end, with a more low-key Radio 3 presence from then on.
