New Services Added

Week from Monday 21st August 2023 - The COVIDian Bugs done got me! Sore throat, coughing, shortness of breath, fatigue, joint pain... you can see where I'm going with this. I don't think I'll be doing any travelling THIS week...

I haven't taken a test, 'cos it's already fairly obvious what it is, without paying out (coughing up?) for something that is a fairly hit'n'miss procedure anyway (plus I'd have to go out in public in order to get one!). Those home-testing kits have an equal chance of giving you FALSE POSITIVES or FALSE NEGATIVES, especially with any new strains and variants that are about, for which they were never designed to detect. I know of a married couple who both recently went down with EXACTLY the same symptoms. Both took the test at the same time. HE was "negative", SHE was "positive". Go figure.

Anyway, I think I shall be STAYING IN even more than usual, if that's at all possible! I might dedicate the time to learning about the new version of LIBRE-OFFICE that's due out this week...

Meanwhile in MUSKWORLD... Elmo's made an announcement that he's going to remove the ability to BLOCK others' accounts and postings from appearing on your timelines. Of course, under all sorts of EU and US laws and regulations (as well as those laid out by Apple and Google), he's not actually allowed to do that (yet), but this is probably just another example of his NOT THINKING IT THROUGH. Kinda like changing the name of the company BEFORE checking to see if there are any appropriate DOMAIN NAMES available.

It's just another bit of spiteful 'MAKE IT PERSONAL' pram-play on his part, as it appears so many people are blocking or muting his OWN accounts (including his ex-wife and numerous former employees). But scan the comments on any of his postings, and you will notice that a large number of them are from BLUE-TICKS telling him what a "GREAT JOB" they think he's doing.

He's also hobbled (i.e. slowed down) hyperlinks to other sites he considers to be 'rivals'. Oh! and the proposed cage fight with MARK ZUCKERBERG was also a piece of wishful thinking fibbery... Maybe he should instead concentrate on fixing TESLA's 'intelligent' cars so that they don't throw themselves under the massive sixteen-wheeler articulated lorries that they seem unable to detect?

It's time for the VUELTA! On paper at least, it looks like a race for the CLIMBERS, so LiDL-TREK have brought out the likes of BAUKE MOLLEMA and KENNY ELLISONDE to 'have a go'. It doesn't look like a very strong team in other aspects (again, on paper!), but given the right situation, I'm sure JUANPÉ LOPEZ might also make his mark. The TV highlights show is being carried by that funny little QUEST channel again, so every morning before breakfast, I'll have to endure an hour's-worth of that awful EuroSport presentation 'style', featuring the woman with the mad dress-sense, two or three blokeylads who wish they were on "Top Gear", and occasional interjections by the village idiot from "Father Ted"...

At the end of the week, it suddenly occurred to me that I hadn't listen to ANY music for a couple of days. I'd been otherwise engrossed(?) in a PROJECT, reformatting a pile of old HARD-DRIVES that I had lying around. I taught myself the rudimentary ins-and-outs of 'GPartED' and all that tedious mucking about with PARTITIONS.

Then I had a problem with my "DIGIBOX", the digital TV recorder. An overnight software update had left it stuck with a recurring "New Services Added" banner, which kept popping up on the screen everytime I tried to do anything, thus preventing me from scheduling recordings or selecting the online guide, amongst other annoyances. I disconnected it from the aerial and went through the process of returning it to the factory settings, several times to no avail. I then left it disconnected so that I could watch all the shows that I habitually save for the weekend, then reformatted the hard-drive, wiping it clean. In the end, I decided to leave the box unplugged and switched off for a day and a night. I then ran another fresh reset on Friday evening, and - TOUCH WOOD! - it's mended itself! I appear to be able to set recordings again! Hopefully whatever GLITCH was bundled with the updates has now been fixed at the factory end. Just in time for the daily CYCLING highlights!
