Our Records Show...

Week from Monday 15th May 2023 - Going into the 'rest day', there's been a major shake-up to the GIRO D'ITALIA standings. Remco Evanepoel was victorious once again in the second TIME TRIAL, but he didn't do QUITE as well as he and others expected. "There's something wrong" sayeth the pundits... It turns out his apparent fatigue during the postmatch interviews wasn't JUST because of the accumulated nine days of racing, but because he's got THE COVID. The race authorities have leapt into action and reintroduced all the rigorous safety measures that should never have been left to chance in the first place. I can't help thinking that the ONLY reason they've taken action now is because it was the race leader who was involved and not some lesser nobody! But that kind of complacency is what happens when governments tell businesses "IT'S ALL OVER".

His withdrawal from the race means that it will probably get BORING for the next couple of weeks. I expect little actual competitive RACING from now on. The tour will return to the kind of technical 'CONTROLLING THE PELETON' shenanigans favoured by the Team Formally Known As Sky and their natural heirs and rivals Jumbo-Visma. It'll be just ROGLIC vs THOMAS now, certainly as far as the telly coverage is concerned. ZzZzZzZz... (Excitement levels aren't exactly maintained by having to listen to the awful commentary team. I wish they'd get rid of the "Father Ted" character and give JENS VOIGT the job!)

Also, the weather in Italy has been bloody awful at this time of year. Some have suggested that the GIRO and the VUELTA should swap places on the calendar.

DREAM DIARY... I'm not sure whether it's the combination of meds I've been taking this hay fever season, but these days I find myself waking up (at a decent time for once) from a proper lucid REM 'dream sleep'... and I'm quite often able to remember the details...

Spent a large part of the night chatting with the Fairports about the previous day's show at a stadium in Reading. It had been a disaster, there was a great deal of rain and the gear was unprotected... Zappa's set had fared a little better, but he'd gone off in a huff afterwards... New Order were good though... A bunch of women in anoraks and glasses cycle past, some of them fall to the ground very slowly... I demand to see my complete medical records and have them arranged in a box-folder...

Far too much FOOTSLOG this week... I'd been 'invited' to the ELF CENTRE because "OUR RECORDS SHOW" that I was entitled to a free PNEUMONIA jab. When I got there, having trudged wearily across town, I was told that I'd already had one and that the message had been sent by mistake. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY's great, isn't it? Especially when people know how to use it...

I think I've established a new MODUS OPERANDI with this here BloggyDiaryWotsit, now that I can no longer access the files on the COFFEECUP site. I've been keeping a dummy version offline, thinking my thoughts and editing the wafflage from there. Then, usually on a Friday, I upload that week's rambling to the BLOGSPOT and tweak the code to suit. That way I only have to contend with G***le's nagging LOG-IN procedure once a week...
